As a school leader, I’ve walked into classrooms and conferences where emotions were high. Teachers overwhelmed. Students dysregulated. And what was missing every time wasn’t a lack of skill—it was the absence of emotional space. A space to pause, to feel, to connect.

After the pandemic, it became painfully clear. We were returning to business as usual. We did so without pausing to care for the emotional wounds that lingered. Students were struggling. Teachers were burning out. And our school systems had little in place to address it at scale.
That’s why I’m developing Thriving HiveEI—an emotional intelligence app designed for both students and educators. It’s built on the belief that every classroom can become a nurturing ecosystem. Emotional growth is prioritized just as much as academic growth.
