To feel is to be human. Yet, we often block ourselves from being human by deflecting, ignoring or suppressing our emotions. This robs us from living more fulfilled lives. Through personal experience, I now recognize that my ability to have emotional sensitivity is a gift. It has helped me become an active listener and support others around me in their time of need or share in their joy. However, I am left with the question: How often do we really check in with our emotions and do we know what they are signaling to us?
The quality of our emotions holds immense significance in shaping our lives and relationships. Emotions can be the thorns on a stem or the petals on a rose which shape our existence, influencing our thoughts, actions, and overall well-being. Whether it’s joy, love, sadness, or anger, the way we experience and express our emotions directly impacts our lives and those around us.
We must take the time to understand, process, and regulate our emotions effectively, so we can show up for ourselves in the most optimal way.
The quality of our emotions matters because it influences the quality of our lives. Positive emotions, such as love, gratitude, and joy, enhance our well-being, provide us resilience in a time of change, and nurture healthy relationships. They contribute to our overall happiness and satisfaction. On the other hand, negative emotions, if left unchecked, can lead to stress, anxiety, resentment and tense relationships.
By paying attention to the quality of our emotions, we can cultivate a more positive and fulfilling life. It requires self-reflection, introspection, and practicing mindfulness. When we become aware of our emotions and understand where they are coming from, we have the ability to respond rather than react. In return we are able to make better choices, communicate effectively, and build deeper connections with ourselves and others.
It is vital to understand our emotions within certain situations, after conversations or when we have made an important decision. How we feel matters because our emotions are the vehicle in which we use to navigate through life. My gentle reminder, your feelings matter and you deserve to fully understand them.
Possible Questions to help Self-Reflection:
What matters to me right now?
What impact am I wanting to have in this moment/situation?
All distractions aside, what do I really want?
